MICROTESLA STEERING MODULE

General Description / Technology / Specifications

General Description

The MicroTesla Directional Wireline Steering Module is a digital output directional measurement instrument designed for trenchless directional drilling and Oil Field Wireline Steering applications. Proprietary magnetometer technology, quality accelerometers, analog-to-digital converter and microprocessor/power supply are mounted on a single rigid chassis, giving stable measurements over a wide temperature range. The MSM can be deployed as a drop-in replacement to existing wireline directional packages.

Technology

The MSM products utilize a three-axis magnetometer which is a MicroTesla proprietary flux gate design making it suitable for operation over a wide range of temperatures and in tough vibration environments. The magnetometer section exhibits linear and repeatable bias and scale factor variations versus temperature, virtually eliminating the need for third order temperature corrections.

The three single-axis accelerometers used in the sensor are the ruggedized quartz flexur servo accelerometers used successfully in Measurement-While-Drilling applications. To complete the Steering Module design, the sensor incorporates a Multi-Controller Unit (MCU) and Power Supply Unit (PSU) to provide sensor power, acquisition control, telemetry, and optional support for gamma and pressure measurements.
